Flight safety: Things to be considered for fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operation

Abstract

Flight safety has become the main concern on drone operation nowadays and encompasses a mind setting that embodies the discipline to protect the public, possessions and industry. This paper presents important considerations on flight safety that the operator (researcher, industries user, etc.) should know and adhere to guarantee the safe and successful flights. Nevertheless, flight safety is mainly reliant on the operator knowledge and skills on the following aspects: the UAV regulations, the equipment operation system and flight parameters, piloting and/or commanding skills, and sound judgment on the external circumstances that may hinder the safe operations. Further, this article also shows that drone operations is not only measured by successfully putting the UAV on the air and capture images but achieve flight safety, thus, flight success may follow.
